Ok Commuter
(Work In Progress)
OK COMMUTER is a one shot graphic novel that tells the story of a space cadet, Arnolt, on his morning commute. The focus will be on the mundanity of the commute and the fascination found in observing fellow commuters. During one of these commutes, a colorful girl named Bee enters the train carriage and her resplendent aura transports Arnolt into a bizarre and brilliant fantasy. We act as voyeurs, observing this bizarre flirtation throughout the train ride. In this story, color is the principal driver. I will use it to differentiate between fantasy and reality; the bridge between worlds.
A one-shot is described as one comic book (generally between 20 and 22 pages depending on the publisher) that tells a complete story. I plan on including a mixture of splash panels and “hanging frames”, where we focus on a scene for longer. I plan on breaking the traditional panel structure by having text and elements from different panels interact and spill into each other.
Whilst color serves to convey mood and characterization, typography will also be used to contextualize this planet. I’ve created my own typeface that will be used throughout the story.
Medium: Digital Illustration in Photoshop
